Though both are reasonably priced for the strength and durability you get from a GMC pickup, the Canyon does start cheaper. For the 2022 lineup, the Canyon’s starting MSRP is $26,800 while the Sierra starts higher at $35,400 MSRP. If you need more power from your pickup, you’ll find the extra cost for the Sierra to be well worth it.   • Base Engine: The Canyon starts off strong with its 200-hp 2.5L 4-Cylinder, while the Sierra starts off even stronger with turbocharged power thanks to its standard 310-hp 2.7L Turbo High-Output engine.
  • Highest Power: The Canyon maxes out with a 308-hp 3.6L V6 engine, but the Sierra takes several steps further with its 420-hp 6.2L V8 engine.
  • Diesel Option: Both models offer a high-powered diesel as well. The Canyon offers its 2.8L Duramax Diesel with 369 lb-ft, while the Sierra generates 460 lb-ft from its 3.0L Turbo Diesel.

As for the fuel efficiency, the Sierra takes the lead while providing up to 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. Similarly, the Sierra provides more towing power with a capacity of up 

to 12,100 pounds while the Canyon reaches a 7,700-pound towing capacity. While the Sierra is more powerful than the Canyon, the Canyon holds its own weight and still offers plenty of power for a small pickup. It really comes down to what you need!
