Ka’ena Point via Farrington Highway

If you’re new to off-roading, this is an excellent 5-mile out-and-back trail that’s open year-round and near Waialua, Oahu. It’s an easy route that takes less than two hours to complete. It’s also a top spot for hikers and mountain bikers, so be on the lookout for other people while enjoying your excursion. Dogs are not allowed on this trail, so please leave them home enjoying their favorite toy. A permit is required to off-road on this route. 

Poamoho Ridge Trail

Want more challenging off-roading trails near Honolulu? Check out this 6.8-mile out-and-back trail that’s near Wahiawa, Oahu. This challenging route could take just over four hours to complete. It also’s fantastic for those who enjoy hiking or running. Open year-round, this is a beautiful place that’s worth checking out. Your pups are welcome, but make sure they’re on a leash. 

A permit from the Department of Forestry and Wildlife at Makiki is required. 

Mokuleia Loop

While it’s only moderately challenging, this 9.7-mile loop trail near Waialua, Oahu will take almost five and a half hours to complete. It’s also a top trail for camping, hiking, and birding. However, you can enjoy some peace during certain parts of the day. Sadly, your adorable dogs must stay home, as dogs aren’t allowed on this trail.
