2023 GMC Canyon AT4X in the mountains

For the 2023 model year, the GMC Canyon receives a next-generation refresh. With an all-new AT4X off-road trim, a top-to-bottom redesign, and advanced re-engineering, this pickup truck is better than ever. What does the 2023 GMC Canyon refresh mean for towing power? The maximum towing capacity will still be 7,700 pounds, although there will be more variation across this year’s lineup.

Whether you need a new truck for work or outdoor adventures in Waianae, the 2023 GMC Canyon should be on your radar! Learn more about the 2023 GMC Canyon towing capacity below with Honolulu GMC.

How Much Can the GMC Canyon Tow?

The 2023 GMC Canyon towing capacity maxes out 7,700 pounds, and you will be able to enjoy this maximum capacity on all trims except the AT4X in Ewa Beach. Compared to previous models, this is an improvement—as only two 2022 trims can achieve this maximum towing power. Take a look at the maximum towing capacity for each model, below:

  • 2023 GMC Canyon Elevation: Tows up to 7,700 pounds
  • 2023 GMC Canyon AT4: Tows up to 7,700 pounds
  • 2023 GMC Canyon Denali: Tows up to 7,700 pounds
  • 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X: Tows up to 6,000 pounds
  • 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X with Edition 1 package: Tows up to 5,500 pounds

If you’re wondering what the Edition 1 package includes, it adds extra cameras, bumpers, light bars, a winch, and 17-inch beadlock capable wheels.

2023 GMC Canyon Engine Specs

GMC hasn’t confirmed the engine options in the 2023 lineup, but it’s expected that the third generation will have one engine, a turbocharged GM 2.7L 4-cylinder. This means that the 2023 Canyon will drop the previous model year’s turbo-diesel Duramax and 6-cylinder engine options. Here are the specs of the turbocharged 2.7L 4-cylinder engine that you can expect in the 2023 Canyon:

Turbocharged 2.7L In-line 4-Cylinder Engine

  • 310 hp
  • 430 lb-ft of torque
  • Standard on AT4X models
  • Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission
